There is no fixed structure. You can have two or three body paragraphs – not more and not less.
Each paragraph should have a central topic and your first sentence should provide the main point to make the content easy for the examiner to understand.
You can use examples if you want or you can not use them. It’s your choice.
Don’t learn formulas.

Today I practised on an agree/disagree essay on IELTS 11 book. The topic was: “Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?”.
Besides paraphrasing the information given, when I stated my opinion I also presented my main ideas in brief. So, my thesis statement was:
Im planning to take my IELTS this June and I’ve been practicing my writing for quite some time now. I managed to come across a Writing Task 2 question from a different source which I find a bit hard to understand. Hoping you could share some of your ideas on how you are going to approach this topic: Almost three-quarters of the population of the developed world live in towns and cities whereas around two-thirds of the developing world lives in rural areas. The developed world should lead by example and not insist that aid to third world is used to develop rural areas. To what extend do you agree or disagree.
There are different views held concerning recycling including, but not limited to, what can be recycled, the benefits of recycling, the cost and efficiency of recycling as well as the effects of recycling in combating global warming. The benefits, economical and environmental, outweigh the skepticism levied against it. The various stakeholders involved need to continue with the innovative efforts to promote better recycling policies and practices, because there is only one earth and it is humanity’s responsibility to take care of it.
Another difficulty faced in the recycling campaign is the fact that many products are not designed to recycle. It has been advocated that producers should have this in mind when developing products. Complete recycling has also been proved impossible owing to the little waste that occurs and is irrecoverable. An example is the lead used in paints cannot be recovered for recycling hence ends up as waste (Huesemann, 23). Recycling has also been shown to have the opposite effect of conservation. Instead, advances made in efficient use of resources like energy leads to greater consumption (Alcott, 15).
I sat for the test and would like to know your thoughts on the Writing Task 2. The topic was that “some people see mobile technology as destroying social interaction. To what extent do you agree or disagree.”
