A film by Gus Van Sant, simply named Harvey Milk, was released in December 2008 in the United States and Canada in March 2009. February 22, 2009 Sean Penn got the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance. Dustin Lance Black was also rewarded with an Oscar for Best Screenplay.
