Usually, the problem that afflicts most essayists is excess verbiage. But from time to time applicants end up with an essay that’s below the recommended word or page count. One major rule applies to this situation:
Hello Liz! 🙂
I’m writing an academic research paper involving diabetes. I’m not sure, however, where to place the statistics surrounding the number of people with diabetes in my country in my introduction. Do I put it before my description of diabetes, or after it?
If you wrote the essay on a word processor, you can find out the number of words quickly. In Microsoft Word, for example, click on Tools –> Word Count for a total. If you used a typewriter, assume that one page, single-spaced, with normal fonts and margins, contains about 500 words (if double-spaced, 250 words).
One type of letter people write is a Love Letter. This is the art of expressing one’s feeling to a person he or she likes or loves. Here, writers are conscious of how they should write; which includes counting the number of words and characters. Sometimes, the letter may need counters to help them formulate the letter. This fact is especially true when a male writes a love letter to his woman. Counters may just be used to to check they didn’t exaggerate the message. Love letters are much easier to write than business letters. Business letters contain a limit to the number of characters included in the letter, which can be more difficult to conceptualize than a love letter. A love letter is written using free style. With modern technology, this letter can be posted in social media sites like Twitter. On Twitter, you just have to tweet your message on the status; and receive comments or feedbacks from links. However, one has to deal with limited characters of around 280.

Don’t worry; even if the application calls for a word or page limit, your reader is not going to bother to count your words and hold you to a ten-word range. However, you don’t have a completely free hand either. The admissions counselors are skilled at estimating the length of your essay. If they specify “an essay of no fewer than 250 words,” they expect at least one typewritten, double-spaced page with normal fonts and margins. And if they ask for no more than two typewritten pages, they will be annoyed to receive ten. They how to count. They have fingers.
Forget about the content of your essay for a second. The quickest way to blow it is to ignore the directions. If there is a suggested word count, aim to come as close to it as possible. If there is a direct question, answer it without veering off on a tangent. If you are asked to submit the essay as a single-spaced document in Comic Sans font (okay, probably not, but you never know), then so be it.
Do not put a page number on the cover page, and do not count it as part of the total Put the word Notes (not Endnotes) at the top of the page with your endnotes.
Academic Introduction: This is the type of introduction you would use for a standardized test or a history paper. A typical standard introduction answers one or more of the six basic questions: who, what, when, where, why, and how. It gives the reader an idea of what to expect. You should try to stay away from simply restating the question unless you are limited by a word count and need to get to the point quickly. Your basic academic introduction or thesis statement is best used as the follow-up sentence to one of the more creative introductions described below.
